Health and safety

The unquestionable priority of human life and health versus industrial output numbers has been the main principle of Intergas Central Asia’s activities in terms of enhancement of the personnel safety throughout entire operations of the gas transportation facilities.

ICA developed and introduced an Integrated Health and Safety Management System (IHSMS) which adopts uniform procedures for organization and conduct of operations in the area of health and industrial safety in compliance with the requirements of the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and international standards of integrated management system.

ICA’s industrial facilities are regularly assessed for compliance of work stations with the safety standards. With respect to assessment of the impact of potentially hazardous workplace factors on the employees’ health and to prevent occupational diseases, ICA carries out annual medical examinations. The results of the medical examinations combined with the assessment of the work stations are further analyzed and used for elaboration of measures reducing the negative effect of hazardous industrial impact. ICA also carries out pre-shift medical examination of employees who are occupied in potentially hazardous activities. To prevent occupational diseases, employees are provided with special catering, sanitary consumables, protective cloths and footwear, individual protection kits, the Company purchases all necessary medical supplies, and performs disinfection at the industrial sites.

Training classes for labour and operations safety function at every operating subdivision of the Company’s branches and are equipped with personal computers, video devices, visual aids, promotional materials and technical documentation, and also with simulation systems to train first aid skills. Annually, at industrial sites, the branches conduct regular technical training of personnel making use of video demonstrations of appropriate and safe methods of operations and utilization of proven and safe labour techniques, and immediate pre-doctor first aid. Similarly, on annual basis, upon completion of the technical training, the workers skills are assessed. In accordance with the requirements of normative and technical documentation, the engineering and technical staff are assessed every 3 years by the commission groups with the participation of representatives of the authorized state bodies in the sphere of health protection and industrial safety.

ICA has a 5-staged system of administrative and industrial inspection of consistent application of rules and requirements for safety and technical operation of equipment and facilities.

The Company’s employees get training for industrial safety in educational institutions in Kazakhstan on regular basis. To ensure safe and accident free operations and maintenance of gas transmission facilities and protection of its operational staff, the Company carries out replacement of obsolete equipment, upgrading of industrial capacities, replacement of automated control system at process equipment, systems of gas leakage detection and other safety controls with new ones.

To comply with the international standards, the Company accomplished OHSAS 18001:1999 certification for Occupational Health and Safety Management System.
