QAZAQGAZ HAS STARTED CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW GAS PIPELINE IN ALMATY
17.11.2023

By the instructions of the Head of State to convert Almaty thermal power plants to gas, a subsidiary of QazaqGaz NC JSC, Intergas Central Asia JSC, has begun implementing the second stage of preparing the gas infrastructure. As part of the new stage, construction of the second line of the Almaty-Baiserke-Talgar gas pipeline has begun.

The second line of the Almaty-Baiserke-Talgar main gas pipeline with a length of 62.4 km will ensure an uninterrupted supply of natural gas to consumers, CHPP-2 and CHPP-3, and will also avoid emergencies associated with the shutdown of the existing single-strand gas pipeline. In addition, it is expected that the gas pipeline will allow for a full-scale gas supply to the city of Almaty through the Talgar AGDS, as well as to carry out major repairs on the first line of the Almaty-Baiserke-Talgar MG without stopping the gas supply to the connected gas distribution stations.

Let us recall that on November 16, the first stage of construction of gas infrastructure for the Almaty energy complex was completed in Almaty. As part of the first stage, the AGDS was launched and the TIP-04 jumper was opened between the Almaty-Baiserke-Talgar and Kazakhstan-China gas pipelines.

At the same time, in 2023, NC QazaqGaz JSC eliminated defects at the AGDS ZTK at its own expense. AGDS ZTK was built in 2016 by a private organization but was not put into operation. The capacity of the AGDS will be 140,000 m3/hour with two output lines - 90,000 m3/hour for residents of Almaty and 50,000 m3/hour for the industrial zone.

When the ZTK AGDS is put into operation during the peak period of the 2023-2024 heating season, it will be possible to relieve the existing Orbita AGDS, which supplies gas to industrial and residential consumers in Almaty. Thus, natural gas will be transported through the AGDS ZTK to the western part of Almaty. In addition, with the commissioning of the ZTK AGDS, it will be possible to supply gas to the industrial zone of Almaty.

It is worth noting that the project to modernize Almaty thermal power plants is being implemented by Samruk-Energy JSC. QazaqGaz, in turn, is engaged in the construction of gas infrastructure. The implementation of the project will improve the quality of life of people in Almaty by reducing air pollution in the city and surrounding areas, and will also cover growing energy consumption.
