CONSTRUCTION OF THE NEW TALDYKORGAN–USHARAL GAS PIPELINE COMPLETED
23.10.2025

The national company QazaqGaz has successfully completed the investment project “Construction of the Taldykorgan–Usharal main gas pipeline” on the instruction of the Head of State.

Construction began in August 2024 during Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov’s working visit to the Zhetysu region.

Congratulating residents on this milestone, regional akim Beibit Isabayev said:

“On behalf of the people of Zhetysu, I would like to thank QazaqGaz for completing the construction of the Taldykorgan–Usharal main gas pipeline ahead of schedule. We will continue expanding gasification across the region, as access to natural gas not only improves living standards but also represents a strategic priority with a strong economic impact. Our first step will be to connect social facilities — hospitals, clinics, schools, kindergartens, cultural and sports centres — followed by households. The project will also boost industrial growth, support small and medium-sized businesses, and create new jobs.”

Yelzhas Otynshiyev, Managing Director for Strategy and Asset Management at Samruk-Kazyna JSC, highlighted the project’s social significance:

“Samruk-Kazyna implements large-scale initiatives across various sectors, particularly in oil, gas and energy. The Taldykorgan–Usharal gas pipeline is one of such projects. Gasification will improve the social well-being of local communities, create jobs, enhance the environmental situation, and attract new investment to the region.”

Construction of the entire linear section of the new gas pipeline has now been completed, along with six automated gas distribution stations: Kapal, Zhansugurov, Sarkand, Koilyk, Kabanbai, and Usharal.

According to Akbar Tulegenov, Deputy Chairman for Strategy and Investment at QazaqGaz, the progress of construction and installation works was under close supervision:

“As a result, the new gas pipeline and all six AGDS facilities were completed one year and four months ahead of schedule. QazaqGaz has thus carried out the most labour-intensive stage of the project, laying the foundation for the region’s gasification. We are now awaiting a positive state expert review of the design and estimate documentation for the construction of the distribution network.”

In the next phase, the regional administration will begin construction of local gas distribution networks, which will eventually bring natural gas to 84 settlements with a total population of 134,000 people.

Usharal resident Aben Sakipov shared his impressions:

“I’ve lived in Usharal since 1980, and we’ve waited a long time for this day. Winters in the Alakol district are harsh — we heat our homes for seven or eight months each year. To keep our grandchildren warm, we wake up early to light the stove. It takes up to eight tonnes of coal a winter, plus firewood. It’s hard work for older people. Since we live on one of the main streets, I hope we’ll be among the first to connect to the gas. We’re very happy that gas has finally reached our remote district.”

The implementation of the Taldykorgan–Usharal main gas pipeline investment project is expected to stimulate local business activity, promote tourism, support small and medium-sized enterprises, and create new jobs across the Zhetysu region.
