This is a strategically important facility, on which stable gas supplies to settlements and production facilities of Mangistau region, including the city of Aktau, depend. Moreover, the pipeline provides gas supply to the main enterprise of the region, which is responsible for the life support of the entire region, MAEK-Kazatomprom LLP.
It should be noted that as of today in the Mangistau region there is the highest consumption of natural gas compared with the entire domestic market of the country. In the last year alone, it amounted to 2.5 billion cubic meters of gas, or 19% of the whole domestic consumption.
The gas pipeline, almost continuously, has been in operation for over 40 years. Its length across the territory of Kazakhstan is 472.8 km. The continuous exploitation of the line led to a gradual onset rate of failure risk, due to the negative effect on the strength characteristics of metal and weld joints.
Given the high importance of the strategic facility Okarem-Beineu Main Gas Line, a total overhaul was carried out and 187 defective pipe length were replaced in an extremely limited deadline, in just 19 days. Also, branch joints to Beineu, Tolep automatic gas distribution stations were made, as well as a gas pipeline section was laid under two road crossings.
