On October 31st this year the Palace of students Kyzylorda State University named after Korkit ata hosted a special meeting in honor of the 10th anniversary of establishment of Kyzylorda Branch for the management of main gas pipelines of JSC Intergas Central Asia, a member group of KazTransGas group of companies (a subsidiary of the JSC NC KazMunayGas).
The history of the Kyzylorda Branch for gas pipelines management originates in 2004, when in order to improve the environmental situation in the area of hydrocarbon fields in the basin of South Turgay depression of Aryskum fault and, in conjunction, to supply fuel gas for heat and power generation purposes and general consumption of the associated gas by the population of the city of Kyzylorda, it was decided to build a main gas pipeline Akshabulak-Kyzylorda and an automated gas distribution station.
The project that was primarily of social nature, obtained significant funding resources allocated first of all, from the internal budget of the company, but the result shows it was worth it.
It is for more than 10 years by now that the natural gas is used in its entirety for the benefit of the region and the environmental situation has improved due to the burning of natural gas, the harmful emissions into the atmosphere have been reduced to insignificantly low levels.
To date, 3 industrial enterprises in the region, 948 of utility businesses and 50 616 of residential clients have been converted to the natural gas supplies.
In addition, for the Kyzylorda dwellers, it is both, cheaper and safer to use the natural gas compared to the liquefied bottled gas. Besides, the gas supply to the city has created favorable conditions for the development of the industry promoting businesses of various technological areas. All this helped to positively address a range of such issues as the employment of local population, expansion of market and maintenance services, inflow of investment and total consumption growth.
Over 10 years of operation of the main gas pipeline, the Kyzylorda Branch has transported over 1.729 bcm of associated gas from the oil and gas field Akshabulak, and paid to the regional municipal treasury more than half a billion Tenge in the form of taxes and other obligatory payments.
Meanwhile, the historical statistics shows significant growth of volumes. So, against the volume of 105 million m3 of natural gas transported in 2006, in the current 2014 Intergas expects to transport at least the volume of 312 million m3, which is proven threefold increase in the natural gas consumption in the region. The forecast gas sales volume by 2019 is set to reach 400 million m3 per year.
Further on, for the 10 years of operation, the number of the Branchs personnel has increased by almost 5 times that is today 138 employees, bringing in more jobs for residents in the region.
Increase in personnel also resulted from the take over for operation of the commissioned in October 2013 main gas pipeline Beineu-Bozoy-Shymkent, the largest section of which, namely 847 km long, passes through the territory of the Kyzylorda region. This project will bring along the solution for multiple objectives of the national importance starting from supplying of the Kazakh gas produced in the West fields to consumption centers located in the south of the Republic of Kazakhstan and export opportunities for the domestic gas to be sold in the PRC market.
In addition, the project implementation will open up additional opportunities for economic development and will contribute to improving of the living standards of citizens of Kazakhstan. Next, majority of the large and small settlements located along the pipeline route will be gasified thus promoting the modernization of the gas infrastructure of the entire southern region of Kazakhstan.
Construction and further operation of the gas pipeline is set to facilitate the opportunities for Kazakhstan content involvement, creating new jobs through additional investment in social sphere and production. The complex it will contribute to improving the overall social impact of the gas pipeline project, which is becoming a major gas supply routes to the south of the country. In overall effect this project will contribute to the social return from the gas pipeline project which route will gradually become the basic channel to supply gas to the south of the country.
Meanwhile, the company pays serious attention not only to the staffing numbers, but also to the qualitative growth of the personnel and social support provision. The employees of the Kyzylorda Branch get competitive benefits and remuneration for their work. Their good performance is rewarded both, with material aid and moral recognition. So, on occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Kyzylorda Branch founding, the most experienced workers of the branch received diplomas of honor.
In his welcoming speech, Managing Director of Intergas Central Asia, Kurmash Abushakhmanov noted that uninterruptable, reliable and accident-free operation of the main gas pipeline is a very important mission, which imposes big responsibility on the whole team of the Kyzylorda Branch. The responsible and professional in doing their business people represent the core of the branch being the main component of success operation throughout the 10-year history of the production unit.
Background reference:
Construction of the Main Gas Pipeline Akshabulak – Kyzylorda
The Government of the RoK, in its resolution No. 281 of 26 February 2001, entitled "On measures facilitating integrated and efficient use of natural and associated gases from oil and gas fields in the basin of the South-Turgay depression of Aryskum fault", and for the purpose to improve the environmental conditions in the area of the deposits located in the basin of the South-Turgay depression of Aryskum fault and to ensure gas supplies for heat and power generation utilities and the population of Kyzylorda city, and further pursuant to the directive of KazTransGas No. 5 dated 20 April 2004, it was decided to start designing and construction of main gas pipeline Akshabulak-Kyzylorda.
According to the Decision of the Board of Directors of JSC Intergas Central Asia of 7 December 2004, the company established the Administration for the management of the main gas pipelines in Kyzylorda, that is Kyzylorda of JSC Intergas Central Asia.
The main activity of the Kyzylorda Branch is the operation and maintenance of the main gas pipeline (the “MGP”) Akshabulak-Kyzylorda, which was commissioned in December 2004 with total length of 122.92 km and pipe diameter of 325 mm, along with transmission of natural gas for Kyzylorda city. The throughput capacity of the MGP is 421 million m3/year with operating pressure of 54 kgf /cm2.
The design capacity of the automated gas distribution station Saratov-50 (AGDS) is set as 54,000 m³/h.
In performing its basic activity, the Kyzylorda Branch aims to fulfill the adopted production plans for the transportation of natural gas, to maintain the operating condition and upgrade the gas transmission system in operation, implementation of policies and objectives of the company in the area of quality management, health, safety and environment.
In administrative terms the gas pipeline route is located within boundaries of the Syrdarya district of the Kyzylorda region and reserve lands of Kyzylorda city.
The existing gas pipeline Akshabulak-Kyzylorda provides for comprehensive utilization of the associated gas from the oil and gas fields located in the basin of the South Turgay depression and is set to secure the needs of Kyzylorda city in dry gas. The associated gas from four fields is fed into the gas treatment unit (UPG) Akshabulak where it is processes to meet the standard of GOST 5542-87. Next, the dried gas is compressed to the pressure level of 5.4 MPa to flow into the gas transmission network. The final destination of the gas transportation is the AGDS Kyzylorda, where the natural gas is further cleaned, undergoes odorization, and commercially metered.
Construction of the MGP Beyneu - Bozoy - Shymkent
In order to ensure the energy security of the Republic, reliable gas supply to consumers of the southern regions of Kazakhstan and diversification of Kazakh gas export, on the basis of the agreement on cooperation in the construction and operation of the gas pipeline Kazakhstan – China entered between the Governments of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Peoples Republic of China on 18 August 2007, further in 2011, the project for Construction of the main gas pipeline Beyneu - Bozoy – Shymkent was set in realization.
In January 2011, the parties established on parity basis a project company, LLP Beineu – Shymkent Gas Pipeline with fifty-fifty distribution of the shares between the founders, namely, KazTransGas, JSC and TAPLine (PRC).
The project provides for the construction of 1,477 km long gas pipeline with annual throughput capacity of 10 bcm of natural gas with an expansion option up to 15 bcm.
The Beyneu - Bozoy – Shymkent project is one of the major infrastructure projects in Kazakhstan, that is included in the national list of strategic investment projects, as well as in the Industrialization Roadmap for 2010-2014.
The route of the gas pipeline with the pipe section of 1,067 mm will pass through the territories of Mangistau, Aktobe, Kyzylorda and South Kazakhstan regions. Its implementation will be executed in several stages.
In particular, the gas pipeline will be laid through seven districts of Kyzylorda region, that will be subsequently gasified, namely, (Aral, Zhalagash, Zhanakorgan, Kazalinsk, Karmakshy, Syrdarya and Shieli districts).
The first stage with the throughput capacity up to 6bcm was scheduled for completion in 2013. Thus, within its framework, falls the commissioning the 1,130 km long pipeline section connecting the compressor station (CS) Beyneu with the CS Kereit, with a branch pipeline heading towards the CS Samsonovka.
The second phase is scheduled for implementation during the 2014-15 period, and will be carried out by construction of another section of the Beyneu- Bozoi GP 311 km in length and additional CSs enabling to increase the capacity up to 10 billion cubic meters.
The estimated at 3.5 billion dollars cost of construction of the pipeline is to be funded in form of project financing. The amount of funding is quite balanced, taking into account the expected amount required to conduct construction and engineering works. The volume of funding is regarded as a balanced value taking into account the expected scope of construction and engineering works scheduled for implementation.
